HEM Collection Exhibition：Off the Beaten Track

Overview
The forest is no longer present. This is not just speaking in an ecological sense, instead, it means the forest path was now insufficient for leading the beings. The contemplation, awareness and epiphanies that once resulted from wandering, gazing and being in the realm have now evolved superficially into a shift in attention, a temporary escape from perception, just in time for the loss of deep subjectivity.
This exhibition centers around the idea of “forest” and attempts to discuss the previous paradim of experiencing and representing the nature, featuring works by modern Chinese artists from the HEM collection, such as Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Lin Fengmian, Wu Guanzhong. Referring to the words of Heidegger's Off the Beaten Track: "In the wood, most paths are overgrown and end abruptly where the wood is unexplored. These are also called Holzwege. Each goes its separate way, though within the same forest. It often appears as if one is identical to another. But it only appears so."
