Re: The 58th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition China National Pavilion Tour

Overview

"Re: The 58th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition China National Pavilion Tour" came to He Art Museum on April 11, after Beijing, Chengdu and Jingdezhen. As the "Olympics of the art world" and the "mother of biennials", La Biennale di Venezia, with a hundred-year history, is not only a biennial carnival event for the international art world, but also has been playing the role of a trendsetter in the field of contemporary art, becoming one of the most important art events in the world. Ralph Rugoff, chief curator of the exhibition has chosen the theme as "May You Live in Interesting Times".

Wu Hongliang, curator of the China National Pavilion, echoed this theme with "Re-睿", a reference to the tradition of Eastern culture and the history of dialogue between East and West. "Re" is a prefix that appears frequently in the vocabulary of many Western languages, meaning "back, backward" and constituting a backward momentum for the suffixed words. In Chinese, there is a word with a similar pronunciation: 睿, which means wisdom. In the face of today's new problems, looking back may be the only way to gain insight from "Re" and "Rui". The works of the four artists - Chen Qi, Fei Jun, Geng Xue and He Xiangyu - present the artists' exploration of "Re" from different dimensions, such as the consensus of civilization, daily life and their own perceptions.
