HEM Art Museum is a privately owned art institution. The museum space is located in Shunde, Guangdong, easily accessible through the arteries of the Great Bay Area. The museum is designed by renowned architect, Tadao Ando.
The museum premise occupies 16,000 square meters, of which 8,000 will be used as exhibition spaces. Tadao Ando’s design highlights his signature use of cast-finish concrete in the double-helix staircase for the center courtyard, and the galleries dedicated to modern and contemporary art will exhibit HEM’s comprehensive collections as well as curated programs from Chinese and international artists.
HEM is devoted to collections, research, exhibitions, education and the dissemination of knowledge about modern Chinese art and global contemporary art. It aims to build an exchange mechanism of international art grounded on local cultures and provide a platform for effective communication and promotion to further the research of Chinese art history and the development of Chinese and international art practices.
