Architecture × Art: Tadao Ando Dual Exhibition in China
Press Conference is held at Fosun Foundation in Shanghai on March 2. “In the light of the on-going challenge that all of us are confronting, these two upcoming exhibitions together aims at encouraging our people to stay positive, endeavor to overcome difficulties beyond boundaries, like the spirit underlying the Green Apple,” Tadao Ando states in the online conference call.
Fosun Foundation will hold the fourth stop of exhibition Tadao Ando: Endeavors from March 19 to June 6, 2021, which is centered on the life and works of architect Tadao Ando. It features architectural models and remakes, sketches, drawings, videos, photographs and travel logs that document his legendary life. Meanwhile, Tadao Ando Architect and Associates has designed the exhibition space according to the architectural traits of Fosun Foundation to provide visitors a more enlightening experience of the architect’s works. Ms. Wang Jinyuan, Chairwoman of Fosun Foundation Shanghai, introduces, “It is a great honor for Fosun Foundation to present Tadao Ando's first large-scale retrospective exhibition "endeavors" at art gallery level in China. Today, when the world is facing great challenges, the title of this exhibition is very meaningful. The COVID-19 epidemic sweeping the world has brought unprecedented challenges to the whole world. I hope that the exhibition will bring more vigor and hope to the Chinese audience.”
He Art Museum, located in Shunde, Guangdong, will officially open to the public from March 30, 2021, holding Tadao Ando’s first art exhibition Beyond: Tadao Ando and Art. The exhibition sheds light on the artistic trail of Tadao Ando and how he works to transcend aspiration through three chapters, Beyond Art, Beyond Light and Beyond Ando. This is his first art exhibition that uncovers his artistic achievement from inspirations, ideas to creations. It features exhibits by some of the greatest artists in history that have connection with Tadao Ando personally and professional, such as Pablo Picasso, Ellsworth Kelly, Alexander Calder, Richard Long etc. The reappearance of Tadao Ando’s well-known work, the Chichu Art Museum, will be one of the highlights within. Mr. Shao Shu, Executive Director of He Art Museum, says “At HEM, a museum complex and an artwork designed by Tadao Ando, people can enjoy the ways he creates artworks beyond time and space. The exhibion will definitely deliver his powerful stories and the philosophy behind him as a great architect and artist.”
Along with the exhibition, Fosun Foundation and He Art Museum will present combo tickets and co-hosted programs such as guided tour, to provide the public an unique experience of Tadao Ando’s accomplishments.
